Coffee Grinder Repair & Service Berlin

Burr inspection, motor, grounds output, calibration. So your espresso tastes the way it's supposed to.

Coffee Grinder Repair Berlin — the underrated half of espresso

Spend 5,000 euros on a La Marzocco Linea Mini and pair it with a worn-out hand-me-down grinder, and you might as well drink filter coffee. The grinder is half the flavor — some say more. A perfectly dialed-in espresso machine paired with a bad grinder gives you mediocre espresso; a mediocre machine paired with a great grinder surprisingly often gives you excellent espresso. That's exactly why grinder service carries the same weight in the workshop as machine repair.

We do service, repair, and calibration for common commercial and home grinders. Focus: Mazzer, Mahlkönig, Eureka, Ceado, Anfim. The typical issues are burrs (wear), motor (capacitor, bearings), grounds output (clumping, static buildup), calibration mechanism (warped, cracked).

Typical symptoms and their cause

  • Espresso tastes sour despite grinding finer — burrs are dull
  • Grinder gets loud, rattling sound — bearings or burrs worn, sometimes a stone was in the beans
  • Grinder stalls under load — capacitor's gone, less often the motor
  • Grounds clump at the outlet — static or a scaled-up outlet flap
  • Grind setting won't go fine anymore — adjustment pin or thread is defective
  • Grounds are inconsistent — burrs misaligned, bearing play, beans too dark/too fresh

On electronic grinders (Eureka Atom Specialità, Mahlkönig K30 Vario, Victoria Arduino Mythos) add to that: control electronics, display, dosing sensor, timer.

How a grinder service works

  1. Request with the grinder model, year, and a description of the problem. If you know how many kilos have gone through since the last burr replacement, mention it.
  2. Drop-off in Oranienburg or pickup in Berlin and the surrounding area.
  3. Diagnosis: visual inspection of the burrs, motor run test, grind test.
  4. Cost estimate — burrs? motor? calibration? all of it?
  5. Service in 3 to 5 business days, often faster if burrs are in stock.
  6. Calibration with a grind test on the brew machine you use (or an equivalent one in the workshop).

Burrs come from the original manufacturer wherever possible. For rare models, we only use aftermarket burrs if they're equivalent in quality — we don't install unground burrs from some no-name web shop.

Burr wear by grinder type

Grinder type Recommended replacement after Examples
Home, 64mm flat 300 – 500 kg Mazzer Mini, Eureka Specialità
Home, 65mm conical 400 – 600 kg Eureka Olympus, Mazzer Mini Conic
Commercial, 64mm flat 500 – 800 kg Mazzer Super Jolly, Anfim Pratica
Commercial, 75mm flat 700 – 1,200 kg Mazzer Major, Ceado E92
Commercial, 83mm flat 1,000 – 1,500 kg Mahlkönig K30, EK43
Commercial, 80mm conical 1,000 – 1,500 kg Mazzer Robur, Mythos

Figures are guideline values for espresso grind. If you grind very fine (Turkish, espresso) you'll wear through faster; if you grind coarse (filter, brew) you'll get more life out of them.

Emergency grinder service for gastronomy

If the grinder goes down, that's just as much an emergency as an espresso machine failure. We run emergency grinder service on the same terms as for machines — Berlin inner ring 1 to 2 hours, Brandenburg by arrangement. For the most common commercial grinders (Mazzer Super Jolly, Mahlkönig K30, Mazzer Major) we have loaner units to bridge the gap on request.

What we do NOT do in grinder service

  • No built-in super-automatic grinding units. Those are integrated, proprietary, and not individually serviceable in the classic sense.
  • No stainless steel polishing as cosmetics. If you want the grinder to look nicer, that's what restoration is for.
  • No "tuning" burrs from dubious sources. We install what's tested and traceable.
  • No bean recommendations beyond grind-setting advice. Which beans you run is your business — we set the grinder up so it can handle anything reasonably well.

Location & brand focus

Workshop at Oranienburg, Am Dorfanger 6. Parts in stock for Mazzer, Mahlkönig, Eureka. For Ceado, Anfim, Compak, Nuova Simonelli, Victoria Arduino lead times run 3 to 14 days depending on the part. Grinder service typically takes 3 to 7 business days — if you need it faster, say so upfront and we'll slot the grinder into the next open bay.

FAQ

Common questions.
Honest answers.

Question not covered? Call us: 030 75 43 73 44

When should I have the burrs replaced?
Home grinders: every 300 to 500 kilos of beans ground through. Commercial grinders: every 500 to 1,000 kilos, depending on the bean type. If the espresso suddenly turns more sour, you keep having to grind finer, and the grinding noise gets louder — typical signs the burrs are worn out.
What does a burr replacement cost?
For a Mazzer SJ or Major, the set runs 80 to 140 euros in parts, plus 90 to 130 euros labor for removal, installation, calibration. For a Mahlkönig EK43 or Peak, parts run 140 to 220 euros plus labor. Before you commission the work, you get parts and labor cost broken out separately.
What about the motor if the grinder stops running?
The first symptom is usually the capacitor — costs 15 euros, swapped in 30 minutes. If the motor itself is shot, on a Mazzer it runs 180 to 260 euros, installation 90 to 120 euros. On large commercial grinders (EK43, Anfim Caimano) the motor can get pricier — we check beforehand.
Do you calibrate the grinder after service too?
Yes, calibration is part of the service. After a burr replacement we dial the grinder back in to the point you had it at before — or better, if you're switching things up. We run a grind test with the basket you actually use. If you work with single dosing, tell us beforehand.
Which grinder brands do you service?
Mazzer (Mini, Super Jolly, Major, Robur, Kony), Mahlkönig (Vario, K30, EK43, Peak), Eureka (Mignon, Atom, Specialità, Olympus), Ceado (E37, E92), Anfim (Pratica, Caimano, SP-II), Compak, Nuova Simonelli MDX, Victoria Arduino Mythos. For rarer models (Kafatek, Ditting, HG-One) we check parts availability upfront.
Do you also do emergency grinder service for cafés?
Yes, if the grinder goes down, that's just as much an emergency as a dead espresso machine. Emergency service terms are identical to our machine emergency service, travel time depending on region. We have loaner grinders for common commercial models (Mazzer Super Jolly, Mahlkönig K30) on request.
