Models we service and repair
Bezzera is the oldest espresso machine brand in the world — founded in Milan in 1901 by Luigi Bezzera, the inventor of the espresso machine as we know it. Today Bezzera keeps building in its second and third generation, with a lineup that runs from lever machines to modern dual boilers. We look after the entire current lineup, plus vintage models on a regular basis.
Magica is the bread-and-butter machine. Heat exchanger (S variant) or PID, E61 group, Ulka vibration pump. Solid construction, a manageable service scope, at home in plenty of Berlin kitchens. The Magica MN is the plumbed-in variant.
Strega is Bezzera's lever machine — and a universe of its own. A spring system in the boiler generates the brew pressure; no electric pump in the brew chamber. Full-grown heat-exchanger construction, serious steam, fine for milk drinks too. The service profile is completely different from any pump machine.
Matrix comes as MN (plumbed) and DE (dual-boiler electronics). The DE is a full-grown dual-boiler home machine with PID on both boilers — solid middle ground between Magica and Duo.
Duo is the bigger dual-boiler sister. PID, E61, more volume, near-commercial construction in a home shell. MN is the plumbed version, DE as the name says.
Unica is the compact single-boiler machine — entry class.
Mitica is the slightly larger heat-exchanger machine, in several variants (Top, S, PID).
B2016 / B2013 is the commercial line for cafés, two or three groups.
Typical problems and how we fix them
Strega, lever sticks or shots pull unevenly. This is Strega-specific service territory. The spring system in the lever boiler softens after 5-10 years; brew pressure no longer builds properly or varies from shot to shot. We strip the lever mechanism in the workshop, check and renew springs, gaskets and piston. Workshop work with special tooling — not really an on-site job.
Magica, pump humming loudly. A classic. The Ulka EP5 is done. Replacement including pressure adjustment takes about 45 minutes in the workshop. We always replace the rubber pump dampers at the same time — put a new pump into old, hardened dampers and you invite the vibration damage right back.
Matrix DE, brew boiler won't hold temperature. PID probe scaled up or heating element weak. Probe out, test, replace if needed — anyone who services the ECM Synchronika and similar machines knows the drill. Heating element checked with an insulation tester. Repair happens in the workshop.
Duo, E61 dripping. Standard E61 territory. The lower group gasket is done. Replacement including the upper gasket at the disperser and a solenoid valve check takes about 75 minutes.
Mitica, weak steam. Scaled boiler — Bezzera machines in Berlin running without water softening tend to build up serious scale in the steam boiler after 4-6 years. We descale in the workshop with a pressure pump and visual inspection, pull the heating element if needed and inspect the boiler internals. If the boiler is badly damaged inside, it's a new boiler — rarely necessary, though.
Vintage Bezzera: a chapter of its own
Bezzera has been building since 1901, which means there are machines from the 1960s, 70s and 80s in collectors' hands. We regularly restore:
- Bezzera B2000 and B2003 from the 80s (commercial café machines, often out of closed-down bars)
- Magica predecessors from the 70s (mechanically simpler, but easy to service)
- Older Strega models with the classic lever design
Restoration means: boiler inspection, pressure test, complete gasket renewal, electrical overhaul (wiring, switches, earth conductor), group rebuild, optional repainting. A full vintage Bezzera restoration runs in the low to mid four figures, depending on condition. We do it in the workshop, with an honest cost frame agreed up front.
Genuine parts from Milan
We source Bezzera spare parts through the authorized German distributor and in some cases directly from Milan. Pumps, solenoid valves, heating elements, control boards, PID modules, Strega-specific lever components — all genuine.
On E61 standard parts (group gaskets, springs, cam pins) we stay flexible, because the platform has been standardized since the 1960s. For Strega lever parts, electronic components and pump-side parts: always genuine.
On site or in the workshop
Most Bezzera machines live in private kitchens. The standard: pickup in Berlin/Brandenburg, workshop work in Oranienburg, return delivery. The workshop advantage: pressure test rig, good lighting, special tooling, and a clean floor for Strega lever mechanism work.
We do on-site service where the diagnosis is clear and the job is manageable. For a Strega or a vintage restoration, on site makes no sense — that's workshop work.
Commercial Bezzera machines (B2016, B2013) in cafés: on-site service billed by effort, emergency service around the clock.
Prices and flat rates
- Magica / Mitica service: flat rate, standard parts included
- Matrix / Duo service: flat rate (slightly higher due to the dual boiler)
- Strega service: its own flat rate, lever mechanism work
- Vintage restoration: by effort, quote up front
- Ulka pump replacement: low three figures
- Pickup Berlin / Brandenburg: flat rate by postcode
Hourly rate from 99 euros net, small weekend surcharge. Exact figures depend on the model.
What we don't do
We don't build pump modules into a Strega — it's a lever machine by design and it stays one. If you want a pump machine, buy a Magica or a Matrix.
We don't flash custom firmware onto modern Bezzera PID machines.
We don't do 30-minute quick services. An honest Bezzera service takes the time it takes.
We repair all portafilter machines
Bezzera is part of our prosumer regulars — alongside ECM, Rocket, Profitec and Lelit. We repair all portafilter machines, Bezzera fully included, Strega lever machine and vintage models too. Fully automatic and capsule machines are not our business.
